Fathomwerx Innovation Lab

From Forgotten Warehouse to a Global Hub for Ideas

The Challenge:

A Mission Without a Home

The original Navy warehouse at Port Hueneme was built for storage, not strategy. With dusty yellow walls and temporary furniture, the environment hindered the very thing it was meant to host: innovation. Working with NAVSEA and Matter Labs, Swicz Studios set out to transform this 3,500 sq. ft. shell into a high-tech ecosystem for military and industry collaboration.

The Vision:

Architecture with Intent

We didn’t just “refresh” a building; we designed a transformation of purpose. The goal was to create a space that gave personnel “permission to think differently.”

Strategic Zoning Included:

  • Agile Collaboration: Open areas for unforced brainstorming.

  • The Engine Room: Dedicated R&D and prototyping zones.

  • Command Center: Integrated AV systems for high-stakes briefings.

  • Hospitality Hub: A modern kitchen and lounge for informal networking.

The Execution:

Precision Under Protocol

Managing a project inside an active military base requires extreme coordination. Swicz Studios led the end-to-end execution:

  • 3D Visualization: Moving from yellow walls to a sophisticated charcoal-grey aesthetic.

  • Custom Fabrication: Branded partitions, custom cabinetry, and environmental graphics.

  • Technical Integration: Full Audivisual system, electrical, and plumbing upgrades.

The Result:

A Catalyst for Innovation

The transformation changed the DNA of the work being done inside. The lab now reflects the caliber of the Navy’s mission—inspiring problem-solvers, supporting fast experimentation, and strengthening industry partnerships.
